Julien Frey was born in 1977 and grew up in Paris. From very early on, he felt a desire to tell stories, and soon decided to become a scriptwriter. Having obtained a degree in cinema studies, he gained his first experience as a writer for more than a dozen animated series, including Casper and Geronimo Stilton. Later, Frey turned his attention to more personal projects, contributing to the comics journal Papier, led by Lewis Trondheim. He then published the autobiographical graphic novel Un jour, il viendra frapper à ta porte (Delcourt) in 2014, together with artist Dominique Mermoux. And most recently, he collaborated with artist Lucas Varela on Michigan: On the Trail of a War Bride (Dargaud 2017; Ponet Mon in English 2020), based on the story of a young French woman who follows an American soldier across the Atlantic following World War II — one of 200,000 such European "war brides."
